The New Haven Preservation Society is a 501C-3 non-profit corporation, established in 1987 to purchase and save the historic old school building from demolition. The societyʼs primary goal is to promote historic preservation in the New Haven community through educational and informational activities.
The society sponsors a variety of community events, provides awards for notable preservation efforts, and develops exhibits featuring New Havenʼs past.
The Old School, which was built in 1883, was in operation for over 100 years. Today the building provides a meeting and banquet room for community events. The Springgate Museum, Archive Room, and the 2017 addition “The Journey Begins Museum” are also housed in the building displaying many historic local objects, documents and artifacts.
A major accomplishment of 2014 was placing the new steeple on top of the school. The “Steeple Project” was made possible through generous donations from many and construction by Lloyd Borcherding, his crew, and some NHPS members.
